Telefónica has completed deployment of phase one of the Locken access-control solution on some of the sites providing coverage for its mobile phone network in Spain.

Daniel Paul del Valle, Telefónica’s Head of Network Engineering, comments as follows: “the Locken access-control solution is suited to the diversity of our sites. It delivers significant improvements compared to mechanical locking systems: it allows us to grant access authorisations at any time, without the need for physical monitoring of keys..."

...Given that most of our construction and maintenance activities are entrusted to external service providers, who often require temporary or limited access, this represents a considerable benefit. Tens of thousands of accesses are now made every year, more simply and more efficiently.”
In point of fact, Telefónica’s sites vary widely from place to place: often located outdoors, they are geographically very disperse and fit into a range of different environments (urban, rural, industrial, coastal or mountainous areas).
Their settings too exhibit very different characteristics: they may be constructed on rural, urban or industrial land, and be housed in public or private buildings owned by private individuals, co-owners or private companies.

Locken has been able to provide a comprehensive response to Telefónica’s needs: in addition to standardising its access arrangements, the company was seeking a global response to all of the challenges it faced:
- Installing a solution that suits all environments and can withstand harsh climatic conditions,
- Facilitating access for its many external service providers, while at the same time monitoring their activity,
- Ensuring that sensitive sites remain secure.
