Palma de Mallorca Airport – AENA Group
Palma de Mallorca Airport, the third largest in Spain, uses the Locken solution for its access points. Part of the AENA Group (which also manages the airports in Madrid and Barcelona), it plays host to several million passengers a year and, on some days in August, has as much traffic as Europe’s busiest airport, London Heathrow.

Locken has equipped access points around the security perimeter for the main two runways and fitted out gates with electronic cylinder padlocks. Being outside, they have to withstand severe weather conditions, including high temperatures and proximity to the sea. These padlocks secure an extremely sensitive area where access is restricted to certain categories of staff. However, in the event of a major incident, doors and gates must allow immediate access to emergency services. This underlines the value of a single smart key system where access rights with variable validity periods are managed by the central system based on individual user profiles. The cylinders are passive, meaning no wiring is required.

In Palma de Mallorca, the Locken padlocks are also used as “Guard Tour”, allowing the security guards on patrol to confirm compliance with surveillance procedures by indicating their movement on these dedicated devices.

Induction technology: major innovation

Locken’s electronic key access control solution is based on the contactless induction technology patented by the Iseo Group. Advantages for the user include the fastest opening times of any wireless access control system and exceptional ruggedness with no contact between the key and cylinder.
